Today I am putting together 2 Marcella Gold and Blush Pink Hair Pins.
I have to be honest – they are a labour of love! Why? Well, this bridal hair pin design features handmade clay flowers and leaves. I form the flowers and leaves from a specialist clay, it has to be coloured and get to the correct consistency to be be manipulated, so this can involve some waiting while the fresh clay dries off a little. When the floral and leafy details are shaped they need to dry over night before the gold lacquer can be applied. The pearl and crystal sprigs are a little quicker to create, but still I thread each pearl and crystal into place on the wire stems and secure the shapes. When all of the separate components are made up I begin to secure them together to form the mini bouquet motif.
I think it is worth the work, the finished hair pin is light and delicate but quite a strong visual piece. As with all bridal hair pins it is really versatile too, brides can wear one two or more and fit them into any hair style.
Embracing the handmade process enables me to produce bespoke versions too.
This custom coloured Marcella pin set was commissioned in red with orange pearls for a beautiful Autumn wedding.
The Ivory bridal hair pin above was commissioned last summer. It is a mix of two of my designs.
